Caledonian is nearing completing the manufacture of the MoD Lyneham accommodation modules, on time and within budget.
The company secured the contract to provide Single Living Accommodation (SLA) for MoD Lyneham in Wiltshire as part of a £35m Kier development.
Part of the Army Basing Programme, the project will create 296 rooms over 5 blocks, providing accommodation for troops returning from overseas and relocating within the UK.
Caledonian successfully completed 1,145 rooms over 12 blocks on the same base for Kier in 2012/13.
The modules for the current 296-room accommodation project are being held at Caledonian’s 40 acre manufacturing site in Nottingham ready for delivery to Wiltshire.
Each individual module is supplied by Caledonian around 90% fitted-out before leaving the factory, ensuring rapid completion on site within only a few weeks.
A growing number of architects and developers are partnering with Caledonian because it is one of the leading modular and off-site building specialist in the UK. The company utilises a simple, yet highly effective and efficient mix of BIM, design for manufacture and assembly (DFMA) and lean manufacturing techniques to create high quality permanent buildings.
All of Caledonian’s accommodation modules are precision manufactured to extremely high tolerances, far higher than traditional construction, to create buildings that offer clients superior levels of airtightness, energy efficiency and longevity. Once completed the buildings are indistinguishable to a traditional build.
MoD Lyneham was a particularly time sensitive project, which is one of the reasons why the client specified Caledonian’s modular solution for the accommodation. The major benefit of using Caledonian’s modular systems, aside from reduced build schedule on site, is that it offers high levels of safety, productivity and quality because large elements are completed off-site.
“We are nearing completion of the manufacturing stage of the MoD Lyneham modules exactly to schedule,” said Paul Lang, Chief Executive Officer of Caledonian Modular. “They will then be delivered to site ready for final fit-out and we expect the process to be done quickly and efficient over the next few weeks.”
Caledonian has considerable experience working with the MOD having delivered over 14,000 bed spaces over the past 15 years. This experience and successful track record of project delivery reinforces the company’s presence in this sector.
