Premier Inn, Sheffield
Young Street, Sheffield, S1 4UP
This 122 bed hotel shows how a modular structure can be combined with traditional construction methods to ensure the benefits of each system are optimised.
At 13 stories overall, the lower four stories contain car parking, offices, retail and front of house with modules providing the bedroom accommodation from level 5 to level 12 and roof modules providing plant rooms and the head of the staircase.
The modules were designed around the need to provide open plan meeting rooms, double rooms, family rooms and fully accessible rooms. Due to the building configuration a concrete staircase core was used to allow for the lateral loads on the building.
As the site was restricted in the city centre, mast climbers were used to install the rain screen cladding. The masts were fixed to the modular structure.
