Ranmoor Student Village: Number of modules – 997
A 1,200 bed development which includes study bedrooms with communal kitchens, studios and family apartments, built in eight individual blocks. Each of the horse-shoe blocks are shaped to suit the orientation of the site and are arranged over five to eight storeys which follow the site contours.
Due to the use of welded hot rolled steel in the construction of the modules, all imposed and lateral loads are carried by the modules themselves, without the need for additional support, with the modules also carrying all the claddings.
With programme and costs being a driver, wider modules were used, in some cases over 5 metres, which allowed for five bedrooms with en-suites to be built in to one unit. A range of shaped modules containing staircase and lift cores were designed, including wedges, to alter the orientation of longer runs.
