A leading principal contractor to the Ministry of Justice, detention service providers and police forces throughout the UK, Caledonian has pioneered the development of high quality buildings for the custodial sector.

We offer turnkey building solutions for custodial applications, from Rapid Built Residential Units (RBRU) and ancillary buildings to ‘safer cell’ fit-outs with our building systems able to be adapted to extend existing accommodation or to provide completely new facilities.

Our expertise in this demanding sector is exemplified by the completion of over 100 projects (7000 prison and police cell places) within various custodial establishments, working to all relevant building standards and regulations including: NOMS (National Offender Management Service).

Our experience extends beyond custodial accommodation requirements, projects include education blocks, visitor centres, sports halls, general administration blocks and kitchens. Many of these buildings are produced with concrete floors and the extent of offsite construction is maximised (including roof structures and plant rooms) to reduce the work that needs to be carried out within the prison confines.

Completed project values have ranged from £500K to £40m and Caledonian fulfilled the role of principal contractor for the majority of these schemes.
